Indoor Masses to Resume beginning Saturday, May 22, 2021

Dear Friends in Mission,

I have been getting the question of returning inside the Church at least once a day since the Supreme Court ruled that churches could open despite the pandemic back in early February.   Well, I FINALLY have an answer for you.  We will return to indoor worship on the Solemnity of Pentecost, with the Vigil Mass on Saturday, May 22nd.  After consultation, prayer, and an abundance of caution, we believe that the “Birthday of the Church” will provide a fitting and safe return.

Inside we will continue to follow the state public health recommendations and the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which include mask wearing, social distancing, an upper limit of 250 people per Mass, communion given only in the species of the Consecrated Bread and only on the hand and refraining from shaking hands at the sign of peace.

For the time being, we will move forward with the following schedule:

  • We will keep the current weekend Mass schedule, adding a Saturday evening Vigil Mass
    • Saturday
      • 5:30 pm - English
    • Sunday
      • 7:00 am - English
      • 8:30 am - Spanish
      • 10:00 am - Vietnamese
      • 11:30 am - English
      • 1:00 pm - Spanish
  • Daily Masses will resume on Monday, May 24th
    • 9 a.m. in Vietnamese
    • 12 noon in English
    • 6 p.m. in Spanish.
Please note that the weekday schedule has changed from before the pandemic.  We will continue to monitor the Mass attendance and adjust accordingly.  Once the Mission church is open for worship, we will announce a more “permanent” schedule.

For those who are not yet ready to return to church, we encourage you to watch one of the multiple televised Masses available every Sunday (i.e. Cathedral of our Lady of Angeles, EWTN, etc.)

PLEASE NOTE:  We will discontinue our live streamed Masses after Sunday, May 15.

As the warmer weather approaches, I’m sure you will agree that “being church” will be just a bit more comfortable in an air-conditioned building!

Peace,

Fr. John - Pastor
